Through Topsy-Turvy Times: Trusting in God’s Faithfulness

I wasn’t sure why the other women signed up for the 3-day summer retreat by the Ocean City, but I was crystal clear. I was going to seek the Lord with all my heart, and since His Word says, “Seek Me, and you will find Me; call out to Me, and I will hear you; draw near to Me, and I will draw near to you,” I was 100% sure I was going to hear what He plans to do with me and my life. Belief was all I had because my entire life had gone topsy-turvy!

I moved to the United States for the second time, trusting God, even though it didn’t make sense. I had settled comfortably in my home country and planned for a peaceful retirement in a home I had bought. But God clearly called me to move, so I did. The first blow came when I lost my business of 12 years due to the pandemic. I ended up in a shared home, adjusting to a new job and cold weather that my body wasn’t used to. I wondered, why was I enduring this?

In the midst of it all, I found a church fellowship that felt like a lifeline. One evening, as we prayed in a circle, I had countless questions for God. Amid my doubts, one thought stood out: “God has come through for me before, and He will again.” Just then, a woman approached me and said, “God wants me to tell you, He did it before, and He will do it again.” I was amazed, knowing it was the Holy Spirit confirming His message to me again.

At the end of the third day of the retreat, I still hadn’t heard from God, though I was seeking Him earnestly. After the ladies shared their testimonies around the bonfire, they went inside to play games, but I stayed behind, alone under the starry sky, asking God to speak to me. As the cold set in and all I could hear was the waves, I noticed something engraved on the stone bench in the bonfire’s flickering light. My heart raced—it read, “Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lamentations 3:23.  It dawned on me that we don’t need all the answers; we just need to trust the One who holds them. He is faithful, never forsaking us, with an undeniable track record. Your very breath is proof of His faithfulness. Just look back and see how He has carried you to this point, even when you thought you couldn’t make it.
