He Makes Us Look Like We Did It!

Luke 9:10-17 A reflection of the miracle of feeding the 5000 with only 5 loaves and 2 fish!

Welcome to June and Jesus!
I’m Dr. June, and I’m excited to share my ‘walk and talk’ with Jesus with you today

Today, I want to reflect on a very famous miracle — the feeding of the 5,000, found in Luke chapter 9. Like many of you, I’ve heard this story countless times throughout my life. But today, something new stood out to me.

At the beginning of Luke 9, we read that Jesus called together His twelve disciples, giving them power and authority to cast out demons, heal diseases, and proclaim the Kingdom of God. They went out in obedience, and when they returned (verse 10), they excitedly reported everything to Jesus.

Desiring a quiet moment, Jesus slipped away with them toward the town of Bethsaida. But the crowds discovered where He was going and followed. Instead of being frustrated, Jesus welcomed them, taught them about the Kingdom of God, and healed those who were sick.

Later that day, the disciples came to Jesus and suggested He send the people away to nearby villages to find food and lodging because they were in a remote place.
But Jesus didn’t agree.
Instead, He challenged them: “You feed them.” One version says “you yourself feed them”

This struck me deeply.
How often do we ask God to remove people from our lives — people we see as burdens or interruptions? Yet Jesus shows us a different heart. He welcomes the ones who seek Him, even when it disrupts His plans.

And when Jesus tells the disciples to feed the crowd, He’s teaching them (and us) an important lesson: those God brings into our lives are not to be sent away. We are called to care for them.

The disciples immediately responded with human reasoning:
“We have only five loaves and two fish! Are you expecting us to go buy food for all these people?” (There were about 5,000 men there, not even counting women and children!)

We do the same thing, don’t we?
We look at our lack — our limited resources, our tiredness, our weakness — and think, “How can I possibly help? I don’t have enough.”

But Jesus didn’t ask them if they had enough.
He asked them to trust Him.

He instructed the disciples to have everyone sit down in groups of fifty.
There was no visible miracle yet — just a simple act of obedience and trust.
That alone took faith. Imagine making 5,000 people sit down for a meal when you only have five loaves and two fish!

Sometimes, God calls us to obey before we see the miracle.
We may not understand how He will provide.
We just need to trust the One who commands us. God has already planned the 12 leftover baskets, at the very moment you step into obedience trusting him with nothing in hand!

And then the miracle unfolded.
Jesus took the loaves and fish, looked up to heaven, blessed them, and began breaking them into pieces.
He kept giving the food to the disciples, and they distributed it to the people.

Notice it was still the disciples who handed out the food to the people — but the source was Jesus.
He made it look like they were doing it, but it was His power at work through their hands.

That’s the title of today’s message:
“He Makes Us Look Like We Did It.”

We might feel inadequate, unqualified, or too broken to serve others.
Maybe you’re facing overwhelming challenges — sickness, debt, broken dreams.
You think, “How can I help anyone when I can barely help myself?”

But remember: it’s not about our strength.
It’s about His power working through us.

If we bring what little we have — no matter how small — and trust Him with it, and do what he asks,
He can multiply it beyond anything we could imagine.

Looking back on my own life, there were times I had nothing — no support, no resources, no answers.
And yet, time and time again, God showed up.
He provided.
He made a way. He saved me from danger. He made me shine!

Today, as I sit by the lake and listen to the birds singing, I’m simply grateful.
Grateful for one more day to breathe, to thank Him, and perhaps to be a miracle for someone else today!

Will you trust Him today?
Will you yield to Him, even with the little you have?

He’s done it before.
He will do it again.

God bless you.
Have a wonderful and blessed day!

  1. I especially love that part -“He kept giving it to the disciples…” All Jesus requires of us is to be yielded vessels and He does the rest, whether meeting our own needs or meeting others needs through us. God bless you Dr. June. I appreciate your reflections always.
